This chat room has been brought into being simply because I got fed up with turning up on some of the more established chat web sites and finding discussion to be centred on either endless lists of a/s/l questions, heated flame wars between believers intent on saying the final word on their pet theories on predestination and foreknowledge or of antagonistic unbelievers who were intent only to say as much as they could against Jesus and the things of God as they could.
Therefore, I decided to attempt to begin a chat room where people can drop by to chat about christian issues and, while there may well be disagreement, they can be content to ‘agree to differ’ seeing as it’s solely the work of Jesus on the cross which unites us rather than the correct credal formulae.
It can also be used for you to meet up with friends and acquaintances at pre-arranged times away from the delights of Yahoo Messenger crashing every few minutes or ICQ with it’s frequent PMs which no one really wants to receive.
Feel free to discuss the mundane as well as the spiritual but do remember that it was primarily brought into being for the discussion of christian topics and for fellowship. I shall, no doubt, meet friends in here who aren’t christians so you should feel free to do so, too - and to talk about your auntie's 87th birthday and what you want to buy her and is it possible to light that amount of candles on one birthday cake without it melting the marzipan.
Please do not flame! That is, don’t call that believer you take exception to a ‘recalcitrant and unsaved backslidden evil-hearted sinner’ or speak in capitals (which is shouting) or politely tell another person which part of their anatomy you think their last posting was typed with.
If the language gets bad, remember that you can choose to ‘ignore’ the individual (a setting which makes their messages not appear) rather than flame back - they’ll soon leave the room when no one answers them!
If the chat room degenerates into a continual free-for all which is unedifying, it shall be discontinued - but a private room will be restarted which will be made known by private invite.
I will also act as intermediary between any people who find they have grown to hate one another and don’t wish to even say ‘Hi’ anymore. After all, that’s my duty, isn’t it? But I won’t try and take sides, to put one down and raise another up. You already know that I have my own unique interpretation on certain Scriptures and issues but, if I have to get involved, it will be because there is a problem between individuals on a fellowship level rather than a doctrinal one!
I intend trialing this room for a couple of months to see if it’s of any use to anyone. Please email me back and let me know if you want it to continue - or if you want to meet up with me there for a chat and I’ll try to be there (just remember that I’m in the UK and the time difference, okay?).
